The Arabic term "hijama" comes from the word "hajm," which means "sucking." Hijama (cupping) is the practise of placing cups to different body sites while creating a vacuum inside the cups.
Hijama, or disease-treating cupping, is a very old method that was practised by several Arab nations in the Middle East.
Our Prophet Muhammad, sal-Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam, acknowledged the virtues of the hijama, wore one, and advised his companions to do the same in order to heal themselves.
Hijamas are currently worn widely in both the East and the West, including China, India, Europe, and recently, America.
Muslims who lived in Andalusia, Spain, during a time when their knowledge was at the forefront of medicine, brought cupping to Europe.
A form of prophetic medicine known as Sunnah Medicine, hijama cupping therapy has the ability to treat a variety of illnesses and physical problems.
One of the stories about hijama goes like this: "If there is anything great to be utilized as a treatment, then Hijama Cupping." Sunan ibn Mahjah 3476
